First things first.....when I opened the case my heart nearly skipped a beat. It was more beautiful than the pictures Pat had prior sent me.....its everything I asked for and more....the attention to detail is amazing, and the neck is absolutely awesome!!!! I'm not a flashy guy when it comes to guitar finishes....I like natural wood or solid darker colors...I'm really not into looks, mostly just into tone performance, but the guitar is so beautiful I cant help but to talk about it.....but tone, this guitar has it in spades. The oiled finish is smooth and definitive and the 5A Flamed Maple/Purpleheart 5 piece neck is amazing...and the craftsmanship is great. The sound is very articulate and resonates even with the guitar unplugged. The low B string isn't muddly like most 7 strings, its punchy and sounds like an unchained Demon. You can hear all the neuonses in chords, even in high gain situations. I play many different types of music and this guitar covers it all, from death metal to clean jazz....this guitar sounds amazing....I couldn't be more happy...I'm so happy. The service that I have gotten through Sims was great. Pat took everything I needed in an instrument and made it happen....asking how I played the instrument and how I wanted it to sound to how I wanted it wired....and gave good advice on some choices for reaching those goals with the hardware choices I've selected. Pat always stayed in touch with updates and to check if I would like to make any changes in the options I had chosen. This is now my main guitar. It plays so effortlessly....I've been playing guitar for years and I know what a good guitar is, and this is it.

Thanks Pat, this is definitely the first of many Sims guitars I will own. Hear me play this guitar on our new album coming soon or check us out on iTunes or Myspace.

Just wanted to let you know how happy I am with the refin jobs you did on my USA Spector bass's. These basses had seen some pretty drastic wear and tear through the years and even made it through Hurrican Katrina. They are such incredible playing basses I figured it was time to make them look as good as they play. After doing alot of research and speaking with you I figured you were just the man for the job. Thanks for listening and for the attention to detail you did in restoring these basses to their new condition. I know they were difficult since you had to take the bodies down to bare wood to make it all look even again after so much play wear had worn parts of the wood away.

All I can say is, "Thank you and an incredible job well done!"

I received my orange Telecaster body in the mail the other day and was literally blinded because of the brightness and reflection of it. I have started to build the guitar with Texas special pickups and a nice 4-way switch to give it some pop. This guitar will turn heads because of this rare orange color, I don't know anyone at all who will or does have a guitar like this. Have a orange Telecaster was a dream made reality.

As for the paint job, its clearly a superior finish compared to the other factory finishes on my other guitarss and it will definitely stand up to the test of time, while being meticulously taken care of. I wanted the most orange ORANGE and it doesnt get anymore orange than this. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for everything and I will be sending another guitar to get painted in the near future!

WOW. That accurately sums up the looks, feel, tonal versatility and sound of this guitar. Patrick delievered the goods on this one, and gave me what I asked for - a Singlecut with as minimal a neck heel as possible the could both screwm and sing.

Fit and finish: 99.5% flawless. There is a slight chip in the finish behnid the low E string tuner at the corner of the headstock - I don't care, its not noticeable unless you look for it, and I have no idea how it got there. The clearcoat is smooth as glass.

Electronics: J S Moore Black Widow Alnico 8 in the bridge and a V-1 vintage PAF style in the neck - sings and screams like no other. 5-way selector switch to me these options: bridge bucker, both buckers, neck bucker, neck bucker and bridge single in parallel, & bridge single. The volume and tone knobs work as the should, the 5-way is nice and easy and the pickups sound fantastic.

Construction: Built like a brick house - which is expected when you order a custom instrument. I could find no structural flaws, and the wood looks fanatstic. The ebony fingerboard actually has some figuring in it, which is rather hard to see, but its there. I expect this guitar to last me for a very long time

Playability: Just what I had asked for, plus some! The neck profile is a Gibson '59 neck carve, shaved by .5mm in the center. Since Patrick took down the heel so much it actually flattened the neck a bit as it gets closer to the heel - which works out great for lead playing up around the 15th fret and beyond. He also took into account the fact that I am a 7 string player, and so the string spacing is wider then say an Ibanez. I find the neck and body to be very comfortable bith sitting and standing. The fretwork is fantastic, and I can fly all over the neck with minimal effort. The fretboard is fairly flat, which makes barre chords nice and easy. The tummy cut is a great addition, and I enjoy the thinner body for my pick hand position.

Overall thoughts: I'm really impressed with the guitar and I'm ecstatic that Patrick came through and made me a guitar that we are both very proud of. The wait was worth it and I am quite pleased with the quality, tone and appearance of the guitar. I have a guitar that inspires me again, and I think anyone who is within test driving distance should get over here!

We just received the body & neck we had Patrick Sims do for us and we are overjoyed with the results! We asked for a subtle honey-burst on the body and a vintage amber on the neck & Patrick came through with flying colors. The final result is even warmer than we were expecting and is so glossy, it looks like honey candied glass. This was the 1st of many models, and we intend on working with Sims Custom Shop for a long time to come. Many thanks to Patrick, for his warm professionalism and dedication to excellence.

Patrick,

I must say you really are an expert at your craft. This is the best finish I've ever had on ANY guitar. Very superb work. The Xiphos looks absolutely stunning. Your suggestion of putting a gold Ibaneaz logo on the headstock really brought it all together for a fantastic look!

I wanted to do something special for my son this Christmas, and you helped make that happen. The Spiderman finish you put on this guitar is incredible. He was so thrilled when he opened the case. Thanks for doing so many extra things to complete this job. Your attention to detail is fantastic. Your eye for the right "look" is spot on. And you made sure the guitar was working perfectly before shipping & the setup was great.

I highly recommend your shop. The service is wonderful. You are a very easy to work with. And best of all, the final product is just amazing.

Many thanks again -- from me and my son.

Best to you and your business!

I received the body today. I must say that I am very impressed. The body is very smooth; I won't have to do much sanding if any at all when I paint it. The neck fits very snug. Nice and tight, tighter than the stock bodies which will most defiinitely increase sustain/tone. I have done measurements for the past hour comparing your body with my stock one and it seems spot on.

Thanks alot! I look forward to doing business with you again once this project is done.

I put it all together & yesterday & this thing is incredible!!

Review:

Today I received my guitar with the custom Transformers Bumblebee paint scheme and I must start off by saying "Wow!!". The pictures do not do it justice! Because of his extensive knowledge & experience Patrick Sims immediately knew what I wanted when I sent him a picture of the Camaro Concept used in the movie. Starting with the Kandy Yellow, he continued to mix in other colors until it matched the picture perfectly. Patrick has not only given me exactly what I asked for, he has given me a truly one-of-a-kind paint job. The color is absolutely beautiful! I am confident when I say I am the only one in the world with this color. Thank you Sims Custom Shop!

Review:

Wow! I recently received my Sims Custom Shop Single Cut Carved Top Les Paul-Style guitar which is appropriately named the "Crown of Thorns Model". I play in a couple of different worship bands and literally wanted a guitar that was going to thematically capture that vibe and represent a "Weapon of Warfare".  In order to give this an accurate review I decided to evaluate it for at least one week prior to putting together this write up. I compare it to a Les Paul primarily b/c of its body shape, but having owned and played a variety of Les Pauls over the year I can say thats about where the comparison ends for me.

One of the things I wanted and got with this guitar was a lighter than usual weight. Patrick Sims the sole owner and operator of his business suggested that I try African Mahogany instead of Honduran Mahogany which would be notably lighter and retain the same basic tonal characteristics. Additionally, he made a three piece neck to enhance its stability and strength and used a bone nut. The fretwork is immacualte and the guitar has been PLEK'd and plays effortlessly. The action and setup were very comfortable right out of the case. For tuners he used locking Sperzels with a nice gear ratio and use a standard Tune-o-matic bridge. He chose chrome volume & tone knobs which are a beautiful compliment to the chrome pickup covers and chrome pickup rings. Given Patricks artistic abilities you'll find out right away that he knows how to bring alot of artistically creative elements together at the same time.

This guitar is a tone monster loaded with two WCR Humbuckers and their wiring kit. It has a Dark Burst (Duane Allman) in the Bridge & a Crossroads (Eric Clapton) in the neck. The trapezoid inlay work was nicely done and the finish on this guitar is flawless.

Now with regards to the finish I have to dedicate at least one paragraph to this part of my evaluation because of its quality. When I use the word quality here I'm not only referring to the mirror like finish free of any blemishes, I'm also talking about the artistic ability Patrick had, to bring all the design elements we discussed at the front end of the build process into a masterful work of art that far exceeded my expectations. From the cross, to the Star of David, to the vine of thorns, crown of thorns, and on and on....this guitar will not only drop your jaw at first glance, but has the potential to dislocate it too. I'm not at all kidding when I tell you that his airbrush technique is so good that some of the design elements almost look three dimensional because of his incredible ability to use shadowing in a very constructive way, often creating the illusion that the various designs are hovering over the finish.

Finally I'd like to close my review with a little commentary in the area of customer service. If your expecting a one-to-two month turnaround on a custom guitar build this is probably not the company to place your order with. If you've only got one guitar and your sending it to Sims Custom Shop to be refinished with the expectation of having it back in a couple of weeks......duh. Keep in mind, this is a one man operation and one of the main reasons it takes longer than you might expect for Patrick to get the stuff out the door is b/c he's got more than enough business to keep him busy for a long time. Having said this, if you've got patience to wait for your order you'll be more than happy with it when it arrives. He always got back to me either by phone or email, but how quickly he responded always seemed to depend on his work load at the time. This is a yound business man who is exceedingly talented and is becoming more and more aware of the importance that customer service and response time play in keeping his customers happy. During the build process of the guitar I felt like the response time improved and I had to reconcile my expectations for a quick turnaround on this guitar with the actual enviorment and backlog of Patricks business. If I had to do it all over again, I'd definitely place another order with him, but this time with a more realistic understanding of the build time. I'm a professional player who has played for over 20 years, and by now can easily discern a high quality instrument from a poor one. This guitar stands out as being amongst the best electrics I've owned....and believe me I've owned a few.

Sincerely,

Oscar Hidalgo

Patrick,

It finally arrived!!! After been stuck in customs for a week. JEEEZ nice work mate!!! The green really sticks out and the whole thing just looks so slick. I've always loved the GMC Jems every since I first saw them and now that I have this one you made I couldn't be happier. The swirl could easily compete with any ATD swirl and the fact it doesn't got 20 years of wear and tear on it just makes it that much sweeter.

Hey man!

I've been playing the guitar non-stop for the past two days! Firstly, the guitar looks amazing. Like seriously, this looks like a $2000 custom shop guitar, no joke. Everyone who has seen it is in awe and I've got nothing but compliments on it! It turned out looking just amazing....I can't believe this thing is mine. The tone and sustain are equally amazing. The first time I hit a low B power chord and let it ring out freely my jaw dropped at how LONG everything was sustaining. Awesome stuff man.

Thanks again man, I am now in possesion of the guitar I've always wanted Ibanez to make! But actually, this is even better, as Ibanez wouldn't use such a nice 1 piece body.

I received my Fender Stratocaster back a few days ago and just got it all reassembled. The finish on this guitar is amazing. We went with a copper to patina flip flop and it was definitely the way to go. In the light this guitar sparkles for days and changes color smoothly witout splotches like you see in alot of the chamelion finishes. The finish is so slick you can see your reflection in it! Everyone who has seen it so far has gone crazy over it. I played my first show with it over the weekend and when I picked it up I could hear people in the crowd making comments about it. Thanks Patrick for the good work!

Review:

I have had the guitar for a few weeks now, and have ran it through its paces, so I thought I'd post a little review.

I bought the guitar in a fit of 80's hair metal nostaligia; I wanted a Floyd-equipped guitar.

So you open the case, and heres this gorgeous guitar starring back at you. Zebrawood top, black EMG pickups, black hardware, black "burst" around the edges. A nice artificial binding was created by letting the zebrawood show through; nice touch. The top is nicely contoured. Everything about the finish, the little details; all perfect.

The neck is very comfortable and playable. Not super thin shred style, more like a shallow C. No Ibanez super skinny neck here. The fretwork is just perfect. Very even, no dead spots, no fretting out. The guitar plays effortlessly, the action is low but never buzzes.

One thing that really suprised me, pleasantly, is the sustain. I'd owned a couple Jacksons over the yeaes with Floyds, and they were just dead. No sustain, just plain flat. Not this guitar, it sustains forever. Rings very loudly acoustically.

The EMG's are interesting. The can be bright on the top end, so I always play with the tone control rolled off a little. Problem solved. They are very clear and articulate under high gain.

I'm really happy with the guitar in every way.

All that said, I still suck with a Floyd :)

After working on the JEM body I recently received from Sims I've come to the conclusion its as perfect as it gets. I had been thinking of buying a guitar body done by Sims for 5 years but I kept telling myself that all the guitars on the website were done/photographed by a pro and that the real product would not compare to the guitars I had been looking at on the site. I was really wrong!!! Not only does the website show the quality, but the finished product is better than the pictured guitars on the web! If ya know what the word CUSTOM means then SIMS CUSTOMS IS THE PLACE FOR YOUR CUSTOM WORK! CHECK IT OUT FOR YOUR NEXT GUITAR!!

Thanks again Patrick!

I hated the color of my Ibanez RG 1570. All of the sparkles & that greenish tinted blue......I had to do something!!! I did alot of research & found Patrick Sims who just happens to live in town. I was in no hurry and did not want this project rushed. Patrick helped with the decision of choosing the mahogany by showing me some of his current projects. His portfolio is quite impressive so it was a no-brainer for me. He had my body cut out the day I chose the wood. I received the body last week & was blown away. Pictures do not do this thing justice.

I cannot say that what Patrick does is standard with Ibanez because I have never seen Ibanez put out something as gourgeous as what I have received through Sims. Patrick is certainly an amazing artist and working with him was very easy. You can tell all of the time & care that was put into the creation of this body. If you want a custom finished body done right do not expect a rushed half hearted piece of wood with some paint slapped on it. I had a vision and Sims surpassed all expectations....Well done Patrick, I could not be more pleased!!!

5/4/2009

Just got the body. I love it! It's virtually flawless. I love the spalted/flame maple and the one piece mahogany back is just as beautiful as the top. The back looks like it has a golden aura. The ribbon in the mahogany on the back is awesome. I have started assembly and am loading it with a PAF pro in the neck, an EVO in the bridge and an SD SSL5 in the middle. I have two necks to pick between to go on it (a 570 or a USA Custom). With the 570 neck the sound is nice and fat even with the EVO, and is sustains great. The PAF pro makes that open mouth "ahh" sound that works well for soloing. I may try an ebony board to see if I can add a little spank to it.

Needless to say, I am lovin' it!

I gig with this guitar several times a week. Its beautiful & the quality is great. I get compliments constantly. The finish is the smoothest of any guitar I own, including my custom PRS (which took 18 months to get btw). If you want quality give him a call, his work is DAMN good.

Patrick,

I am writing this to you to give my opinion of the Double-Cut Kandy Brandywine guitar S/N# 1012 that I bought from you a couple weeks ago. Sorry I have not written to you sooner but I have been swamped and can only now sit down to give my thoughts.

First some background on me. I am 46 years old and have been playing since I was 15. I am a rock solid player in the blues/rock genre and can hold my own with other players. I am a musician, not a "poser". I am telling you this so it is understood I am NOT a 15 year old who thinks the greatest guitar in the world is his new $500 Ibanez. I know what quality is, and I know why hype is. My guitars are: 3 PRS's, 2 Les Pauls (Customs), a SG, an American made G&L Commanche Strat and a "real" Steinberger.

Okay right off I will say WOW, WOW, WOW!! When I opened the case I was blown away. The pictures on the internet do NOT do this baby justice. The color and the paint job itself are killer. Perfect in every way! It is so much more rich looking in person. I say there and looked at it for a second and it went right to the top of my guitars in ranking from an appearance standpoint (and my PRS's are beautiful). Your Sims Customs looks expensive and I would also say "mean", "aggressive" and also completely refined. I would not change a thing. I seriously would not. This thing is sweet. When I picked it up, it felt light and well balanced and expensive. Can something "feel" expensive? I don't know, but this DOES!! Like I just got into the drivers seat of an Aston-Martin. You know you are NOT in Chevy country anymore. Could you have charged me more for this? YEP!! Would I have paid it? Oh yeah! I have, or have had guitars that were almost twice the money that are NOT in the same league. I will tell you that your attention to detail is second to none. It is apparent you aren't just cranking out guitars to make a quick buck. Your name is on it, and its obvious that means a lot to you. Maybe like Paul Reed Smith was in the beginning, only better. I do believe your starting point is well beyond what his was at his start. Sadly, money usually changes people and the quality of the PRS's are NOT what they were. Their "10" tops are more like "8's" now...lol. Which brings me to how I found you. I went to eBay to look for an older PRS and found your listing. I knew when I looked at the pictures I wanted to do more research. I did the research, spoke to you a few times and bought the guitar. Very glad I did. Patrick, ALL great things have a beginning. And I jumped on board because the 12th guitar you built, I now own and I believe one day it will be worth "big bucks" (not that I bought it for that reason) I wish I had the 12th PRS or Gibson ever made. How much would those be worth today? "Ka-Ching!!" Sorry,  I am off track. To sum up? High quality, Killer  price!!

Next would be playability. When you said in your auction that it has been "Plek'd" I had to see what that meant. I had heard of it, but was not 100% sure what it was. I googled it and thought...."too cool"....if it really makes that much of a difference? Once I played it I have come to the conclusion that.....IT DOES. Sweet, smooth, low action all the way up the neck, and sustains very nicely. Also my wife commented on how loud it is without being plugged in. It resonates very well. The pickups are "hot" and sound fantastic. I wanted to add a "rock" guitar with a Floyd on it to my collection and this one is perfect. It plays and sounds better than any guitar I have either owned OR played. And I have "played" hundreds or probably thousands. (I love music stores). I have shown it to a lot of guitar players. Some good players and some fair players and they all have said it is awesome. I really don't know what I would change. It seems like it IS what it should be...."Just right". I do know that this is not the only Sims Custom I will buy. More are in my future.

In conclusion I would say that to NOT buy a guitar from you would be missing out on a truly great oppurtunity to own a very well crafted instrument made the way Americans used to make things (the best). YOU still see the need to create something with all your might and to not settle for anything but the best you can build it. I hope that you continue to turn these babies out one at a time with a pursuit of perfection, and that I am blessed enough to buy a few more.

I have searched and searched for someone that could make my dream guitar and when I saw Patrick Sims' website I figured I would try it. I was looking for a satin black finish with shiny black stripes for my Gibson ES-335. I had paid alot of money for this guitar and was very nervous about where to get it painted. Now I expected the guitar when I got it back to be nice but not be like the ones in the pictures. So I gave Patrick a call (nice guy!) I had a picture of what I wanted and we discussed a very reasonable price within a reasonable time frame. He said to me "I can make it look EXACTLY like that picture." I figured everyone says that. What makes Patrick Sims so different? WOW how I was wrong!!! Not only did it look like the picture, but I have shown this to everyone I know and they think it came this way from the factory. He puts alot of pride into his work and it truly is immaculate. He even let me visit his amazing shop and I got to see how all the magic happens. Patrick is not only a great painter, builder, etc...but he can shred on the guitar as well! The wait wasn't bad and he is always willing to talk to you about the progress of the job. I feel like I was doing business with one of my good friends and I want to thank Patrick and Sims Custom Shop for giving me MORE than I could ever dream of.

This guitar was the most beat up dinged up thing you had ever seen.  I wish I had before pics. Unbelieveable!!! This is the most bad Ass paint job I
have ever seen on a guitar! Patrick also installed new pickups and set up the guitar perfectly. I opened the box & almost fell out over how fine it was and then could not quit playing it for a few hours. I can safely say there is no better custom paint guitar artist anywhere. THE GUITAR IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!  I thought about selling it for about a minute before I opened the box, but I changed my mind as soon as I saw it.  WTF was I thinking wanting to sell it?  After I held it up, standing shocked for about 10 minutes made me realize that I still can’t wait to jam out on it.  I am sure some of your less patient customers take issue with the build time, but I am sure that all goes away once they have the guitar in hand!  This is the shortest custom build time I have ever had with a professional builder.  I should know, I have another custom build that is almost two and a half years in the making and I wish I could get it and have you finish it for me.  Just kidding since I know how busy you are.  I promise to get back to you after I have had some time to play it.  Again, I am shocked...truly shocked at how it turned out.  You have a new fan and customer for life.  Keep up the amazing work!!!!!

Best regards,

Taylor S. Gatz

Product: Sims Custom Shop SCS Custom Guitar - 5A Flame Top
Submitted: 10/29/2008 at 11:11am by John Beaver

Sound: Rating: 10 - Music style - Rock - Blues & Country. Amps I've ran it through: Fender Amps - 4 different models. Super quite - Amps usually run on 6 or 7. Sound is full -- tons of sustain. This guitar does it all

Action, Fit, & Finish: Rating : 10 - The set-up was perfect. I have had three guitar shops look at and play this guitar & they have all stated it's the best set-up they have ever seen from a manufacturer. Many of my friends have also played it and they play way better than me -- They have all said this is best guitar they have ever played.

Reliability/Durability:
Rating: 10No problem with reliability - guitar stays in perfect tune. Hardware in all gold and top quality. Finish is excellent. Stap buttons cool and solid. Don't plan to gig with this guitar -- too nice

Customer Support: Rating: 10 - Patrick Sims has followed though on every aspect of this guitar. We have talked on the phone 5 to 6 times in buying this guitar, and 3 or 4 times after the sale. It is quite an experience to be able to talk to not only the designer or the guitar but the owner of the company. Sims Custom Shop is a name to remember -- Get yours now while Patrick still has the time to talk with you. Patrick wants to make sure everythink is EXCELLENT not just alright.

Rating: 10 - Playing for one year - I have 12 Guitars, mostly high end -- Ibanez, Fender, Gibson, Parker & Sims Custom. Talked to Patrick in length before buying the guitar. I would buy it again -- if there was another one. Compared it to a Custom PRS -- Sims won! A 5 positon switch might have been nice -- But it plays great without the option

Patrick,

I got the guitar.  I worked very late the last 2 nights so I didn't get to open it the day before yesterday.  I opened it last night.  What can I say - it is a work of art.  It is solid man!  The white is incredible.  I cannot thank you enough for all the work you put into it.  I played it for a few hours last night.  It just looks incredible man.  The finish is like glass.  Your work is second to none man!  I have a gig next weekend.  I cannot wait to play this live.

Thanks!

Tony

Just got my flip-flop painted JEM body from Patick. I love it! It is really pretty and very well done. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone. I've learned the hard way that quality is ALWAYS worth a little wait and a little patience.

My impressions,

Other than a Les Paul Studio w/ EMG's that I had 10 or 12 years ago and a U.S. Masters Super-T that I currently own, (but seldom play) this is the first all humbucker guitar I have really spent any time with... So far it is an amazing instrument. Possibly the nicest instrument I have ever owned! The craftsmanship is really top notch, plus it was setup on one of the new "PLEK" machines and the neck and fret work is so nice. The action is lower than I am used to, and even with that it plays super easy all the way to the 24th fret with zero issues. The neck is pretty beefy, and reminds me of big Warmoth neck on my “Frankie” strat. Fits my big hands very nicely. The paint/finish and trim is awesome! Patrick Sims puts a lot into his creations and I could tell by the several telephone conversations and emails that he really cares about the relationship between his customers the guitars he builds. I had looked at this guitar when Patrick first posted it in the Emporium and thought that it might be a good match for me. Fortunately for me I had some distractions and didn’t get around to checking back on the ad for a while. I was shocked to see that none of my fellow TGP connoisseurs hadn’t picked up on this amazing guitar! (BTW, the neck HB got flipped back to "normal" before I ever contacted him) Patrick had lowered the price to move the guitar and free up some cash flow. Right then I decided, if it was still available, I would have to have it! My transaction with Patrick was probably the best I’ve ever had in my long history of internet dealings (eBay, Corvette Forum, TGP, etc.) Got him the money and as promised the guitar was carefully packaged and shipped OVERNIGHT. So less that 24 hours after Patrick received the payment I was in my living room playing my new, “way too cool” SIMS SC #1010 Surf Green guitar. At first I was a bit concerned that the BB Pro PUPs may be a bit hot for the style of music I play... (blues and classic rock stuff mainly). I was totally knocked out by how nicely the Sims gets along with my Fuchs ODS 50. Since I've mostly preferred the single coil sound I am still wowed everytime I play this guitar through the ODS, it REALLY likes the HB PUPs and has opened up a whole new sound palate for me.

Patrick is relatively new to the manufacturing/builder biz, but he has a long history doing “Custom” paintwork on guitars as can be seen on his web site.
http://www.simscustomshop.com He is also a guitar player/musician. I certainly enjoyed my transaction with him and am thrilled to own one of his creations! Thanks Patrick!

Looks great. It's cool to see my guitar on your site with such a great representation too. It's a very cool and unique finish, and worlds above camo finishes you can buy on factory guitars. I'm proud to own it.

It's here!!!!! and it's beautiful!!!!! It showed up just as i was getting home from a really crappy day. What a pick me up, lol.  Patrick you're the man!!!

5/21/2008

Ok!!!! It arrived literally about an hour & a half ago. I have it right here in my hands! I have to say this was so worth the wait!!!  The detail in these swirls are unbelievable!!! This is an amazing finish. The clearcoat is smooth & shiney as polished glass. The original pics I saw were before the clearcoat, and I thought "wow, those are bright" Nuh uh! In person they almost glow!!! The only thing I can think of to say is, I imagine it to be like, taking a hit of acid, and going to Mars, looking for a river to fish in. This by far is my favorite so far, it is awesome. I think the best part is, other then the fact its mine, is, the front & back are equally impressive. Alot of swirls, I find myself thinking that the back should of been the front. Not this one. It has a perfect balance! At first, I was thinking it needed a tiny bit more yellow, but now that Im sitting here with it its just right! It gives you enough to be noticed, but leave ya wanting more The pink reminds me of the fruity kids yogurt my kid eats.....LOL awesome! I am completely satisfied, more then I thought I would be. Way to come thru Patrick! Way to come thru!

My name is Jaime de Leon. My phone number is 808-358-2638. The six guitars on the website front page belong to me. Pat Sims made the blue one & red one, upgraded & refinished the others ones. The blue one is the best of my collection of 52 guitars and I can tell you, I am not aware of anyone who can top Pat’s craftsmanship. Pat doesn’t screw around. When you get back what you sent him, 100% for sure and for certain you’ll be totally convinced that for electric guitar restoration, building or just a new paint job, he’s the best and his prices are extremely reasonable. If you want to call me and I’ll be glad to chat with you and give you more information. One thing to keep in mind if you call, I live in Hawaii and I’m 6 hours behind Eastern Standard Time so when it’s 0900 here, it’s 1500 in Nashville.

Aloha. Thanks Pat, keep up the excellent work!!

Review:

I had had high expectations for this guitar after reading so many reviews and seeing so many pictures of his work. Probably too high considering it is a very early guitar (number 3) and basically a prototype. Fortunately it did not dissapoint! The guitar sounds greats and has tons of sustain. The neck feels great. The paint job is second to none, but of course that is what Sims is really known for. The design of the guitar is what really got me. Patrick says it was influenced by four of his favorite guitars, plus quite a bit of his own creative ingenuity. If you really look at it for a while you start to see it a little bit. It is hard to tell just from pictures how cool this guitar really looks. And it's not a small guitar by any stretch. There is enough wood there to give it a nice solid tone. Anyone hesitating to order one of these, don't! These have a great design and should really appeal to the masses. You would be hard pressed to find another guitar in this price range or even higher that is basically a custom shop masterpiece like this. I expect Sims to do very well with these.

Review:

Two words “Freakin Sweet!” This guitar has a superb finish, it’s hard to capture the blue sheen over green finish on camera. Very unique. I like the carve on the top and contours on the bouts. Nice headstock design, a lot of body around the bridge which gives a different look than the Gibson/Fender typical looks. Body is thin and comfortable with good contours. The neck is super smooth and amazingly playable. Reminds me of the wizard with a slightly different profile, maybe slightly thicker, but really playable. Suits me perfect as I prefer that type of neck.
Position of the PU switch and volume is good if you hit the volume by accident a lot, a bit harder for volume swells, but this is a matter of preference. Fit and finish is really nice, especially the neck and frets. Very nice job dressing the frets, nice and smooth on the sides. Sound is a bit different from the Ibanez lines. The Evos in poplar almost give a hot rodded tele type sound. It complements my other guitar very well. So far I’m liking the sound, especially the neck PU. Nice crunch though my Marshall DSL60 head. I definitely like the placement of the jack, a little more accessable than the Ibanez Jem angle.

Overall holds this work holds up really well against the major brands. Nice and unique in sound and looks. You are off to a really good start that’s for sure. It’s a keeper!

Thanks again,

Joe

Hey All,

As most know, Patrick has been building a 7 string Jem for me. Well, about 2 weeks ago it arrived!!! Patrick went above & beyond on this one. The paint is amazing!!! These pics do no justice. The detail is incredible!!!The clear coat is so deep & shiny that it literally looks like the swirls are wet and should be moving!!! Patrick worked his butt off. I ordered this thing a couple weeks before his accident. He went thru 2 brain surgerys, recovery, migraines, frustration.......and he still turns out something like this! Wow!!! Ive said it before & Ill say it again.........Patrick I love ya Bro!!! Im so glad ya have my RG7 to do a Sims DNA finish on it! I hope y'all are drooling over this b*tch, cause let me tell ya she sounds as bad *ss as she looks!!!

I aquired a 1989 JEM7PBK last November that played amazing...one problem is that it looked like total @ss. I contacted Patrick Sims a few weeks later about restoring her to like she was in past glory days. I was quoted a killer price and decided to roll with that. I also included my PMC neck that came off of the PMC "rat" that I got from Rich. The neck broke at one time and the headsock was painted a flat black after it got repaired. Early December I took everything apart, boxed it up and shipped it off. Everything was going to plan until Patrick cheated death in a brutal car accident...followed by the discovery of a significantly sized brain tumor. Medical and personal issues aside, Patrick not just survived but thrived and went back to work. He finished the body and sent that out first. What I received was a sweet, jet black finish that is soo deep that I swear that I can stick my hand into the paint. 3 weeks later the necks came back that are equally impressive. I got everything assembled, set up and tuned and couldn't be happier. Pictures just don't do it justice. I'm very happy with how both the PMC & PBK look...it's now "complete." Many thanks goes to Patrick as he is not only a professional but a true artist.

My comments in regards to Sims Custom Shop:

My first guitar was a black gibson les paul standard that i sent up to Patrick in order to have a Celtic artwork paint scheme done, not only did he do it...but we had an issue that wasn't his fault at all...DHL shipped the guitar next day...BACK to sims shop...not to ME...so Patrick called me the day I should have gotten it freaking out on what to do to get me the guitar for a huge show with Days of the New...not only did he create an amazing finish on that guitar...he DROVE it 9hrs ONE WAY to get it to me...Customer Service...that right there speaks for itself.

My 2nd guitar...(A Sims Custom Shop Single Cut) well lets just say put the pictures to it...looks are freakin incredible...the playability is smooth as silk and like butter, a superbly fine piece...BY FAR!!!!! No DHL issues on that one LOL

Just got my first project body- gmc swirled 570- from Patrick (SCS) and I am sooooo excited!! It's going to be my main player guitar. I just love the swirl- it looks like you could just stick your hand right in it, it's that slick. The finish (and I realize how controversial a topic this can be ) is like glass- makes you want to break out the ice skates and go for a twirl! So excited. Am I happy? Oh, heck yeah!! This thing is gorgeous- the detail (which is hard for my lil' camera to capture accurately) is entrancing. The way the swirl seems to keep moving when you stare at it...

12/4/2006

As usual your work is very good.... I am very pleased.... But I knew I would be... The color is very nice... Already shipped the guitar to Las Vegas for assembly........I will be playing it at the Tropicana Casino Monday night for World Series of Poker Tournament opening Party.

Thanks

The gloss finish coat is perfect, completes the beauty of the whole guitar body. The swirl is amazing. I bought this guitar body to create a guitar that was as unique as I am, thats exactly what I got.

Thanks again

9/29/2006

Body delivered today. I just opened it after putting the kids down for bed. This finish is freaking breathtaking. Ive havent seen clearcoat like this in 40+ guitars Ive personally owned over the years and beeelions of guitars Ive seen and sold over the 10 years I worked at Sam Ash. Im talking super thick and wet looking. The pictures Patrick gave me (which I posted a few in this thread dont even do it justice) Im not exagerating at all its RETARDED how good this looks. I cant decide if I want to make a guitar out of this or just roll around naked on it.

All kidding aside, I can see why you ended up doing so many of those fancy Warrior guitars and basses. Kudos man, you deserve it and you sure as hell are doing my next custom 7. Strongest possible reccomendation from me for whats its worth.
